Drawing in Berlin with Super superficial

This week I travelled to Berlin with Super superficial to work on some live drawing at Bread & Butter 2013.

It was great fun drawing my balaclava design XXL on the white walls of our exhibition space.

The Debrief

Here's a little editorial illustration for The Debrief. It goes along side a piece of writing about one girls train of thought whilst waiting in a family planning clinic. Its slightly more light hearted than it sounds..

Portraits for 'And Here's the Kicker', book by Mike Sacks.

I've been working on a number of portraits to go along side interviews with American comedy writers for a book. Some of them are pretty big names. So far I've drawn Mel Brooks, Dan Clowes, the brothers who wrote the TV show 'Cheers', Carol Kolb who's one of the main writers at The Onion news, amongst others. Still a bunch more to come.

Here's a few to give you an idea..

This will be the sequel to Mike Sack's previous book of the same name.
You can see that here on Amazon.

Colour samples

Whilst googling myself (...I don't do this that often, promise) I found this collection of samples from my recent work on someone's blog. It made me realise that I have actually been using quite a lot more colour this year, both paint and digital.

Busker

I found this on my old computer of a busker in Brighton from a few years ago. Not that he actually played any music, just sat there with a mask on and a DIY doll. It wasn't Halloween.

Headhunter, Converse

I was recently asked to produce an illustration almost as tall as me for Converse.
The idea was to create a piece in one of the colours of their new range of shoe. Mine was a warm grey and various hues of this. The image didn't need to be of or about Converse, it was totally open which was great. I chose to base mine on the Konyak Headhunters of North East India.

"Headhunting is the practice of taking a person's head after killing them. It was common up to the 20th century and may still be practised in isolated Naga tribes of Burma. Many of the Naga warriors still bear the marks (tattoos and others) of a successful headhunt."

I was lucky enough to have access to some great photos of the tribesman by my friend Christo Geoghegan for this.
